Vertical Profiles of Wind Speed and Direction above the Air Sea Interaction Tower (ASIT) and Nantucket Test Site (NTS)
As part of WHOI's long-term Metocean monitoring campaign, MVCO observes the vertical structure of wind speed and direction above the ASIT using a Zephir 300M vertically profiling lidar system. Installed at the ASIT since October 2021, the system measures the wind above the tower remotely using a low power laser, calibrated to offshore wind energy industry standards. Previously, a Leosphere Windcube V2.0 was operated at the tower from 2016-2021, and now operates at the Nantucket Test Site.
Contact MVCO for more information about the program, data access, or use of the facility as a validation location.
The current vertical structure of winds above the ASIT is displayed below, from 53 m to 200 m above mean sea level.

Nantucket Test Site (NTS)
As part of WHOI's long-term Metocean monitoring campaign, MVCO observes the vertical structure of wind speed and direction above the NTS using a Leosphere Windcube V2.0 vertically profiling lidar system. Installed at the NTS since November 2021, the system measures the wind above the tower remotely using a low power laser, calibrated to offshore wind energy industry standards. This Windcube was previously operated at the ASIT from 2016-2021.
Contact MVCO for more information about the program, data access, or use of the facility as a validation location.
The current vertical structure of winds above the ASIT is displayed below, from 43 m to 200 m above ground level.
